Name: Alnwick
A
workplace on the River Aln. (Derived from the Saxon name "Wic"
Meaning working place)
The
original castle was built in the 11th century and was home to
the Percy family (Duke of Nortumberland) Who fought off the Scot's
and controlled most of Northern England. When the border wars
ended the castle decayed into ruins. It was renovated in 1800s
by Robert Adam. Only the Hotspur Tower remains of the original
building.
