Town Name

Aberdare - Place at the mouth of the river (River Dare)

Originated as a coal mining centre producing the best quality steam coal in the world. The town won the first choir contest in 1872 held at Crystal Palace. A bronze statue of the choir master stands in Victoria Square to commemorate this victory. (Griffith Rhys Jones)
